Stop and Smell The Flowers...

Last week...

I was away from home and on the road! (Spring has sprung...although perhaps not weather wise...we got 10cm of snow this past weekend!)

Knowing me...

I knew I would do my best to make the most out of my spare time while in Vancouver, British Columbia.

It all started on the plane ride there...

As this wasn't the first time that I'd travelled out West...

This was in 2009.

It's to no surprise that...

I fell for it all over again. (And again, and again, and...wait for it.......again with every breath I took!)

Tofino.
Summer 2009.
Breathtaking.

I mean...

The air is so fresh and so clean, and the vibe of the city is just so easy, breezy...

Dramatic isn't it ;)

That...

I always get lost in this trance of sorts as I stroll the streets, exploring. (Even if just for a little while!)

A trance that led me to bump into my high school friend!

***

Stop and smell the flowers....

If there's anything I've learned over the past few months (and one of the many lessons I learned while on vacation)...

It's that...

We need to give ourselves more time to pause, stop and, step out(side)...

  1. To breathe;
  2. To savour; and...
  3. To enjoy what's around us (and not just in front of us.)

Because by doing so...

I strongly believe that...

It makes us value more of those things that we may sometimes take for granted. (You know, like stopping and smelling those FUreakin' flowers!)

I've been buying myself flowers on the regular because...
They make me happy and...
I like taking moments out of my day to savour them...
With my eyes and nose ;)

I mean...

We all have to remember, more often than not, to put the phone down once in a while, get off the computer, step away from technology and drink up more of those invaluable and purifying refreshments life hands to us. (The air, the sun, the breeze, the love, and, not limited to the happiness that fills us to the very brim.)

FUrry love.

That said...

I do know how easy it is to shift back into the fast lane even if...

We make multiple attempts to slow ourselves down! (I won't deny, I have found myself shifting from one gear to another in a blink of an eye!)

But..big BUT...

More so than ever before...

I have been really mindFUl  about...

FUelling myself up more with those things that make me feel refreshed! (More than a luke warm glass of water with no ice can do lol)

I didn't say it.
I love me my Starbucks!
hehe

But seriously...

Whether that be freshening myself up by pulling back a little (or a lot) from those things that needn't not be at the forefront of my life or, re-prioritizing my goals (intentions) so that they meet my wants and needs right now...

My focus lately has been to...

Do more of what I can when I can (#wycwyc) (and not feel bad because I'm not doing everything!) so that...

I can really savour and soak up all of the freshness that there is in and around me! (For more than a split second, if you know what I mean!)

Nothing like taking the time to loaf around and...
Bake fresh bread ;)

So what about you...

When's the last time you took some time to stop and smell the flowers?
To slow down? Pause or stop?
Are you mindFUl of looking up more than down?

Taking Healthy Living On Road and #RECIPEFRIDAY...

So I've been on the road for the past few days and...

I swear it feels like it was just yesterday that I left home! (I've been so on the go that the days have been flying by!)

On my way out West.

Amid all of the busyness though...

I have been doing what I can when I can (#wycwyc) to stay on track with my healthy living goals! (That is, to treat and care for myself the best way I know how!)

Brought with me my gym apparel.
And yes...
That included my awesome T-shirt that I ordered from PR a few months back!
Pumped it up on most days.
In the extra early morning or late at night :)

That said...

No part of me has been stressing over keeping up with my regular routine because...

I know that I am committed to FUelling myself mindFUlly and intuitively while...

Doing what feels good (and right) for me in both body and mind! (I'm definitely not over-thinking it. But, I do believe that part of it has a lot to do with the fact that I've learned a lot from planning ahead, which comes hand in hand with my commitment to the lifestyle I chosen to live by! No doubt though it's not always easy but, you do your best which is what matters most!)

Also...

There is relief in knowing that I will be back to my normal programming in no time so...

Whatever I can't do or keep up with is only temporary! (The importance is that I am putting my efforts in where I can, as much as I can without pushing myself beyond what I believe to be good for me, mentally and physically!)

But I am keeping up with what is going on back home.
hehe

No doubt about it...

I have been enjoying myself...

Quest Bars do come in handy if I need a quick protein fix ;)
FUnny story...
I got stopped at the airport for my PB2 (powdered substance).
In the midst of the search of my bags...
They came across my bars too.
They asked where they could get both things lol

While...

Savouring all things...

Why you must always request the window seat...
Unless you're a frequent user of the loo.
I bumped into a friend randomly on the streets of Vancouver.
I haven't seen her in over three years.
We savoured our time together over dinner...
The day following our serendipitous rendez-vous!

And, overall...

I've been feeling good! (Those in-between moments that I've had to slow down truly give me the refresh I need, whether they last 30 seconds or not!)

Even at the end of the day :)

Undeniably...

I do believe that this 'feel good feeling' does have something to do with the balancing of those things that are important to me! (And not putting any sort of pressure on myself to do more that what I can which, has the potential to throw me off balance!)

Fortune cookies are great reminders to us all and...
I think this fortune came to me at the perfect time.
I got this at the fabulous new restaurant, Bambu, that we tried out last weekend!

***

Now seeing that's it's #RECIPEFRIDAY and...

Seeing that I've been on the road all week...

I have....
Been missing...
Baking me (and others) some sourdough bread!
These are my loaves from last weekend.

I do have a recipe to share with you which is...

Something super simple that SuperFit and I have both been enjoying regularly...

As a side dish!

Sweeeeeet potaaaaaaaaaaatoes.

Part IV ~ Cruising: Riding The Waves and Soaking Up The Rays...

You know...

Seeing that the weather lately has been really conFUsed about what season it is...

I think bringing us back to a warm place should do us some good! (We had a winter storm on Saturday, bringing close to 10cm. WTH?! lol)

After leaving you in St. Thomas last week (hope you had a good time hehe)...

Today...

I will be bringing you to the beautiFUl beach in Samana, Dominican Republic...

And...

To Labadee, Haiti, where we spent our day lounging around!(Which is a place Royal Caribbean calls their "private paradise".)

Can you see the beach from here?
It's way back there on the left :)

***

After getting off the ship in Samana (and taking a smaller boat to shore)...

We knew that the beach would be our destination for the day! (We knew this because RC always lets you know what to expect at the ports of call. They also provide you with info on a variety of different excursions you can sign up for through them...or, what to be on the lookout for when you go off on your own...which is what we did.)

As there were a number of taxi drivers waiting to take travelers to their respective destinations...

I must admit that we were a little lost in terms of which beach to pick/choose from! (Good thing there was an info booth nearby, and some friends we made on the ship to tell us what they were going to do!)

After little discussion (it didn't take long to decide lol)...

We chose to play at Playa Rincon!

But before we got there...

Our gentle taxi driver (he was so calm and friendly) took us to his friend's shop! (It was along the way, and he gave us choice as to whether or not we wanted to go as we drove by it!)

And you know what...

I'm really happy we did because...

He gave us a tour of his store...

And...

He showed us what he'd grown and made!

Explaining what he had in store...literally :)

Also...

He gave us a taste of it too!

No one tried this but...
I couldn't help but laugh at the label on this bottle.
I had to take a pic!
Cocoa and Cocoa beans.
This I did try!
Bananas, coconut and more.
Cocoa 'fondue' with fresh bananas.
This was quite the dish!

After purchasing some coffee beans and cocoa...

We headed over to the beach to relax for the day!

Pure bliss.

After splishing and splashing for a little while...

We had a great BBQ lunch to feed our hungry bellies!

My lunch dates.
BBQ chicken (I ate part of it before taking a picture)...
Rice, some fries and plantain chips.

Once we FUelled up...

SuperFit brought us to see the waves he had discovered on the other side from where we were lounging!

Pretty sure I came close to losing my top and bottoms more than once!
I did lose my hair elastic lol

If anything...

This place was just so much FUn that...

We spent over an hour riding the waves! (I can't even tell you how awesome it was. And what was even more memorable was the smiles and laughter that came with playing around in the waves. The happiness on everyone's face is something that I will never forget. Ever. It filled me, completely.)

SuperFit after being swept ashore from the crazy waves.

Soon enough...

It was time to make our way back to the ship and...

Get ready for our day in Labadee, Haiti where...

We would spend the day sun bathing and cooling ourselves off in the refreshing, clear blue water!

FUnny enough...

I didn't take any pictures while we were there as...

I simply took the time to savour the sun, the beach, everyone and everything around me!

Needless to say...

I soaked it all up through my eyes!

**

All in all...

The four days we spent at the different ports of call were amazing and...

I must say...

My favourite port was our day in Samama because of...

The beach and the waves! (And the smiles. The smiles my friends.)

**

As I have one last post to recap the end of our cruise...

Here I will take you through some of the amazing parts of the Explorer of the Seas which will include...

A super FUn experience we got to take part of during our last day on the ship!

Until then...

Have a fabulous day!

Questions FU You...

Have you ever ridden the waves at the beach? Or a wavepool?
Have you ever had fresh, ground cocoa?
How much do you want to be at the beach right now?! ;)

Life Updates, Fun Stuff and #RECIPEFRIDAY!

Hasn't this week just flown by?!

I mean...

Even though mine started off with a migraine (migraine free for 3 days so far, although I got up with a pounding/throbbing headache this a.m. that quickly dissipated)...

Every day since has simply...

Gone with the wind! (Lame I know lol)

The cold remains around here...
Even if the Spring has apparently sprung.

That being said...

Let me take a break from updating you on our vacation away...

Part I...
Part II and...
Part III.

And...

Let me tell you a little bit about what's been going presently :)

***

First off...

I got these super FUreakin' sweet sunglasses from Sunski in the mail the other day! (All opinions shared about Sunski are mine and mine alone. I was not compensated for my words, I was simply sent a free pair to enjoy, which I totally am!)

I was really taken aback by the personalized note!

Honestly...

They are so much FUn...

How could one resist a selfie?! lol

And, without a doubt...

I feel pretty special that I'm one of the first in my neck of the woods to own a pair!

Did I mention that...

SuperFit was quite taken by them too!

Totally rocking MY Sunski's! hehe

**I must say, the people at Sunski are so, so friendly! When reaching out to me, then reading more about their story, how they give backtheir frames (among other things I perused on their website), I couldn't help but fall for them! And to be honest, I worried that the glasses wouldn't fit my face (since I have a hard time with sunglasses), but they fit just perfect! #WIN**

*

My hair...

In case you didn't notice...

I got my hair did!

I told my hairdresser he could have FUn...

So that he did!

I love the cut and colour!
It's subtle.
I call it the peek-a-boo :)
**

Loafing around...

I've been learning and playing around with my bread making techniques...

As well as...

With my flour to water ratios!

Working on opening my crumb a little more.
That said...
This sourdough loaf is my favourite yet :)

If anything...

I'm expanding my knowledge as I go along...

And...

I'm loving every little bit of time I've had to devote myself to loafing around! (I've been keeping notes since I started back in December. From the benefits of sourdough to keeping track of my baking, flours used, fermenting phases etc...)

Whole wheat sourdough bread.

** Feel free to check out Laura's bread post where she talks bread! So many of the things she shared I've been storing in my brain (or on paper) so I really value the time she took in putting that post together!**

Okay...
Enough bread talk for today lol

**

Workouts...

I've been feeling pretty powerFUl...

And...
Bright ;)

But...

I just don't mean in strength...

I mean...

In both body AND mind! (The two are n'sync and it feels good!)

And lastly...

Both SuperFit and I have signed up for the Canada Army Run! (Taking place in September, just a few days before my bday!)

If you remember...

I did the Army Run back in 2012, which was my very first half marathon!

Nookie and Me nearing the finish line!

What's really exciting about this race is the fact that...

This will be SuperFit's first half marathon so...

I'm really looking forward to running this race together! (And, a few friends have now signed up for it too! Seriously, it's gonna be a big party! lol)

That said...

I guess I should start running again!

I'll be ready as soon as it warms up and the snow has nearly melted!

***

#RECIPEFRIDAY...

Today...

I'm looking to you for some recipe ideas!

As I've been getting back into the groove since our holidays...

I've been sticking to our regular eats! (And not really creating anything 'new' per say.)

Some of the pics below date back to when I first made them :)

Do you see anything?
Me neither ;)
Greek Yogurt with Berries and Flax Seeds.
Low carb protein pancakes.
Recipe.
Egg whites topped with salad, dijon mustard and hot sauce.
Salad topped with a homemade lemon dressing and sumac.
Salad topped with Salmon and Dijon Mustard Grain.

So...

If you have a recipe(s) you've been making and loving...

Share it!

I can't wait to see what you've cooked up!

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

Because Teddy said so ;)
