Stop and Smell The Flowers...

Last week...

I was away from home and on the road! (Spring has sprung...although perhaps not weather wise...we got 10cm of snow this past weekend!)

Knowing me...

I knew I would do my best to make the most out of my spare time while in Vancouver, British Columbia.

It all started on the plane ride there...

As this wasn't the first time that I'd travelled out West...

This was in 2009.

It's to no surprise that...

I fell for it all over again. (And again, and again, and...wait for it.......again with every breath I took!)

Tofino.
Summer 2009.
Breathtaking.

I mean...

The air is so fresh and so clean, and the vibe of the city is just so easy, breezy...

Dramatic isn't it ;)

That...

I always get lost in this trance of sorts as I stroll the streets, exploring. (Even if just for a little while!)

A trance that led me to bump into my high school friend!

***

Stop and smell the flowers....

If there's anything I've learned over the past few months (and one of the many lessons I learned while on vacation)...

It's that...

We need to give ourselves more time to pause, stop and, step out(side)...

  1. To breathe;
  2. To savour; and...
  3. To enjoy what's around us (and not just in front of us.)

Because by doing so...

I strongly believe that...

It makes us value more of those things that we may sometimes take for granted. (You know, like stopping and smelling those FUreakin' flowers!)

I've been buying myself flowers on the regular because...
They make me happy and...
I like taking moments out of my day to savour them...
With my eyes and nose ;)

I mean...

We all have to remember, more often than not, to put the phone down once in a while, get off the computer, step away from technology and drink up more of those invaluable and purifying refreshments life hands to us. (The air, the sun, the breeze, the love, and, not limited to the happiness that fills us to the very brim.)

FUrry love.

That said...

I do know how easy it is to shift back into the fast lane even if...

We make multiple attempts to slow ourselves down! (I won't deny, I have found myself shifting from one gear to another in a blink of an eye!)

But..big BUT...

More so than ever before...

I have been really mindFUl  about...

FUelling myself up more with those things that make me feel refreshed! (More than a luke warm glass of water with no ice can do lol)

I didn't say it.
I love me my Starbucks!
hehe

But seriously...

Whether that be freshening myself up by pulling back a little (or a lot) from those things that needn't not be at the forefront of my life or, re-prioritizing my goals (intentions) so that they meet my wants and needs right now...

My focus lately has been to...

Do more of what I can when I can (#wycwyc) (and not feel bad because I'm not doing everything!) so that...

I can really savour and soak up all of the freshness that there is in and around me! (For more than a split second, if you know what I mean!)

Nothing like taking the time to loaf around and...
Bake fresh bread ;)

So what about you...

When's the last time you took some time to stop and smell the flowers?
To slow down? Pause or stop?
Are you mindFUl of looking up more than down?

  5. I'm definitely trying to pull back more and realize that less technology is not always a bad thing. Like on Sunday I had coffee for 2 hours with a friend and we both had our phones in our bag the whole time -as it should be and it was great to just relax and not worry about time or anything.

    Loved this post <3

  6. What a great reminder Fu. I can't always get away because I've got three kids, but I "get away" almost everyday by going for a solo trail run or a group run on the weekends. It's my time. The time when I disconnect and hit the refresh button in my brain. So glad you're taking so down time! Enjoy! Lovely post! xoxoxo

  15. One of my best friends lives in Vancouver and I SO want to go and visit her!
Last weekend I definitely stopped - I sat on the terrace of my brothers house in the sun for 2 whole days without doing anything but enjoying and chatting. No movement, no technology, just rest and breathe!
