Starting Fresh....

I've pressed the refresh button. And I'm starting fresh.

It all started with new hair ;)

After sharing with you my truths and lessons last week...

And further discussing it with my friend Nookie...

We both decided to take a break.

A break from our physical activity routine for 5 days total.

Yup. 5 whole days!

To be honest...

Neither of us can remember the last time we took a week off of training (let alone 2-3 days) so...

We decided, together, that we needed to do this.

That we needed to...

Step back. Re-focus. Breathe. And give our bodies some rest.

A well-deserved rest. (Even if our minds didn't (don't) agree!)

** I should mention that SuperFit and Little M have decided to join in.**

Oh..
And Teddy too)

I have to tell you...

In the three days that I've been 'off'....

I've come to re-focus myself on things I've put on hold for too long of time.

Be it projects. Fixing up a room. Purging. Or simply being still.

If anything...

It's been quite refreshing to give all of my attention on other parts of myself too.

In other words...

Giving myself the much needed time I've been yearning for to get a sense of where I am. What direction I am headed in. And where I want to go next. (Trust me, it'll take more than a week to figure it all out, but at least I'm giving myself time to think things through.)

Going that-a-way!

Seeing that I never quite feel like I am really stepping back (physically)...

This refresh has been the perfect challenge for me.

Why?

Because it has allowed me to slow down. Pause. And open up my eyes within and outside of me in a less physical sense. (It has also allowed me to breathe a little more deeply too!)

Like I said...

This exercise has been extremely refreshing for me (a clear indication that I needed the break!)...

Even if I haven't yet adjusted to the refreshing new do!

And, without a doubt...

My body (and mind) have definitely been appreciating the rest and the re-charge!

You better believe though that come Saturday...

I will be ready to get out and go! (Running with Nookie hehe)

**To be honest, this break has turned out to be more spiritual than physical. Although my body is really benefiting from the rest, the past three days have enlightened me in a variety of ways. With my intention to de-clutter, in physical space and inwardly, everything I have come to experience  has ended up being a great exercise for my inner-self.**

**

Now in talking about refreshments...

Here's a peek into all of the refreshing goodness I've been loving and enjoying as of late in this edition of...

  7. Wow. The only time I've taken a week off is when I've been inured. I am sure it is good for you, but I think I would really struggle mentally!

  8. I'm actually taking a break right now. I haven't been feeling well, so I decided to skip a few workouts this week. When I come home from work {can't skip that} I've showered, gotten into my pajamas and just RELAXED. Watching TV, reading mags, napping. It's exactly what I need right now. Next week? Back at it!

  9. It can be kind of scary in a way to take a step back from your workouts for anything longer than a day or two. It's part of your routine, what you do. And when it's a stress release as well? Well, you feel sort of reliant on it. Glad to hear that this re-set is just what you needed!

  10. I took a few days off 2 weeks ago and had to work through the guilt. My body was screaming that it needed a break and so I did. It was great.

    LOVE the new hair!!!

  15. I definitely need to learn how to relax when I take a rest day.. it stresses me out! I know my body needs it but it's tough for my mind. I make sure to take at least 1 total rest day each week though. Good for you for taking a whole week, that's awesome!

    1. I thought it would be tough on my mind. But it turns out it wasn't at all because I had little projects to occupy my mind (funny enough, my mind was a-okay with the break too!). That said, I really think it did me a lot of good because I felt my body recharge as the days went by. I was filling up with energy :)

  16. i LOVE your new hairdo. just LOVE!
definitely am immensely inspired by your 5 day break. just 1 day off at this point does not center me, it worries me! i hope i can get to a place like you are at where i can take 5 days off and have faith that my body won't change and i'll be ready to get back to it after the break is over.

    1. I ended taking 6 days. I did me so much good. I didn't think I'd be able to when I first decided to take a rest week, but as the days went by, I realized I REALLY needed it. I thought I'd worry, but I didn't. Not one day. It was a gift to myself. To breathe and allow my body to rest.

  17. Love your hair! It is so cute. I plan my schedule with lots of rest these days, so with the exception of an occasional extra day off here and there, I haven't had a longer planed rest since I had surgery 5 years ago. Maybe it's time!

  18. LOVE the hair! And I've also done weeks off on occasion, especially if I'm visiting friends and just want to relax and enjoy our time together.

  19. I'm on week four of no workouts (besides walking) and it actually feels great! Maybe I should take a page from your book and get a makeover too :) Looks great!

  20. our bodies and minds need that break. we live in a world of go go go, to stop and be still and rest for more than a day is needed! <3

  24. I absolutely LOVE your hair. You were lovely before but now...holy moly, WOW.
As for the break - after every "A" race, I usually take a break from running. I continue to swim as I find it relaxing and it helps recovery. This time around I plan on adding some yoga in there. I want to take some time to reconnect with my breath and my body. I can't remember that last time I took a week off from any sort physical activity,, other than when I've been sick.
