Part II ~ 8 Weeks Out: Being The Best Me!

In yesterday's post, I spoke about what this past week in prep has taught me, so today...

I'll be touching on my training as I work towards the SAF and Physique Canada stage as well as my upcoming half-marathon!

When it comes to my running...

Things have been going pretty well since overcoming my calf/ankle injury.

I've been getting in some good runs and that makes me really happy! (And confident! I'm not as worried as I was before that's for sure!)

This was one hot and sweaty run!

So far...

The distance runs have been okay, so...

I'm keeping positive (and hopeFUl) that things will remain as such!

And...

If there's one thing I've learned over the past year in running (aside from loving the challenge it has brought into my life in more ways than one lol!)...

An injury can happen at any time and any place, whether you're having a great running day or not.

So...

Be mindFUl of your body with every stride and...

Push yourself past those mental barriers! (When your brain tells you you can't!)

#getafterit

Also...

If there's one thing I've come to realize in my running journey it's that...

My goal isn't about setting new PRs (although it's awesome when you do) but yet...

It's truly about enjoying and finding pleasure in what it is I'm doing!

I want to remain carefree when it comes to this sport and simply love it for all it has to offer me! (I find if I get too caught up in times, pace and distance that the pleasure of running itself escapes me because I get too focused on numbers! I simply like putting on my runners and running.)

All in all (and like I said before)...

I just want to do and be my best because that's what matters to me most! (I have nothing to prove. What I have is the continuous learning experience I get to take away from it all! It's my goal, my challenge.)

I've learned that I sweat more than what I ever thought possible for my body.

Moving on...

When it comes to my preparations to compete...

Everything has been going well and I'm on track! (We are playing around with my diet so it's been interesting to see how my body has been reacting to it all, which has all been positive thus far!)

As I mentioned in my WIAW post...

The food part of my prep has been plain and simple over the past few days! (I can't say my regular eats are too far off from what I'm eating now as the seasoning I do use regularly are pretty scarce but tasty nonetheless! But don't get me wrong, I do love me some spice!)

Overall...

The progress is coming along and I'm feeling great! :)

In terms of the training itself...

I haven't lost any strength and to be quite honest,

I feel stronger than ever!

All I can do now is...

Continue doing what I'm doing and bring it with everything I've got and then some!

Again...

I want to be the best that I can be knowing I gave it 110% of myself!

Pre-Workout...
Post-Workout.

Oh and...

Did I mention I received my Physique Canada membership card in the mail the other day?!!

This makes competing even more official! (Eeeeee!!!)

So, as of tomorrow...

I will be almost 3 weeks away to my half and 7 weeks out to my competition! (YaFUuuuu!!!)

Happy FUriday everyone!

Questions FU You...

1. What do you love most about your training?
2. What's up this weekend?

8 Weeks Out: There Is Balance To Be Found!

After writing Monday's post, I wanted to point out that....

Six of us who were at the birthday party are currently getting ready to compete in October at the Serious About Fitness and Physique Canada shows! (We all special ordered ourselves a salad with no dressing! Some of us even brought our own Protein! lol)

Good times :)

That being said...

Simply because we are focused on our goal and follow a strict program...

Doesn't mean we can't have a great time outside of the gym! (Of course, there is a huge commitment involved in preparing yourself for a show, such as the training and dieting aspects of it, but with that in mind, we also have other commitments outside of the competition that are additionally important to us like family, friends and work to name a few!)

I mean...

There is life beyond the diet and contest preparations!

No matter the restrictions involved in getting stage ready...

There is always, always room for a good time!

And I can't stress enough how important it is to...

Make the most out of this journey (enjoy it, learn from it and appreciate every moment that comes along with it!) as...

There is absolutely no denying...

The personal growth (both literally and figuratively lol) that comes with this experience! (No matter if the plan is to ever compete again, there is definitely a takeaway! And, there is most definitively something to learn about, well, YOU as a person!)

You can do whatever it is you put your mind to!

Personally...

What I have found to be most helpful in my preparations is...

My surroundings!

Surrounding myself with family, friends and positivity has been instrumental to my journey! (And in life itself!)

**Having the support and encouragement from those around me, whether or not they are close in physical (or virtual) proximity, has been an amazing way to keep my motivation high, especially on those days where I'm feeling a little low! No words can describe how grateFUl I am!**

Also...

A good time isn't a result of what you're eating or drinking...

It's the people, people! (Yes, it's FUn to treat ourselves to yummy food with a drink of choice in hand (I don't drink so it would be a lemonade for me! lol)), but it's just as FUn, if not better, to be surrounded by great company!)

Mmmm Hamburger.
And Monkey Butter!
My sister Kiki got me these little Peanut Butter delights and...
I cannot wait to have a try!!!
If you're vegetarian or vegan, they have some amazing flavours to try!
I'm drooling.

And believe me...

There is a balance to be found in competition prep that involves everything that makes your life whole! (You just have to prepare and adjust yourself accordingly knowing some things will change and require more time and attention until the big day! It is manageable!)

FUrthermore...

I have found a new sense of self and balance during this prep to the stage.

My body and mind are n'sync with one another and I feel good.

Actually...

Really, really good!

Sure do!

And let me tell you...

That in itself  makes me even more excited about the big day as I continue moving forward!

Let's just say...

This past week has really given me a chance to reflect!

It has also...

Opened my eyes in a sense where I can see more clearly into my inner-self!

In addition to all of this, I, not for one day, forget to...

Be grateFUl for those who surround me! (I am so thankFUl!)

This feeling of peace and balance is definitely one I will remember post-competition!

I now know and am aware of where I want to be right after the big day, which is...

Right here. Right now.

Questions FU You...

1. When preparing for an event, do you strive to keep your balance? Do you find it hard?
2. What are you grateFUl for?

WIAW: Plain and Simple!

This WIAW should actually be called...

What I ate before Monday!

Why? Because...

We are currently testing out a new pre-competition diet that would leave me with no added flavour to play around with! (Insert Violin music here lol)

So let's just say...

Things have been plain and simple over at my place for the past few days!

But hey...

You gotta do whatch'ya gotta do! (It's the name of the game!)

Plus....

I'm excited to see the results (hoping there is some of course lol) after this cycle has ended!

So without FUrther ado...

Here's a peek into what I've been eating since my last WIAW! (So you'll find here a combination of both old and new diet cycle goodies!)

Burnbrae Farms Bowl of Egg Whites
Sliced Cucumbers.
Salmon and Brussel Sprouts
Recipes for this can be found here
More Egg Whites topped with Vanilla Stevia, Cinnamon, Salt, Pepper and Almonds.
(reused photo)
Dim Sum with the family!
Ha just kidding! I ate before going :)
Heart shaped Tuna Steak.
Stuffed Portobello Mushroom Caps.
Recipe can be found here
Dinner.
Recipe for Tuna Steak can be found here
Mahi Mahi with Oven Broiled Broccoli

~Recipe for Mahi Mahi! (which is a new fish I recently tried!)

Ingredients:

Salt
Pepper
Splash of Olive Oil
Lemon Wedge

Easy right?! Yep!

Instructions:

Pre-heat your oven to broil at 385F
Place your fish on an oven safe pan
Spray a touch of Olive Oil to coat the Mahi Mahi
Salt and pepper to your own liking
Put your fish in the oven
Cook for about 15 minutes (or until fish because flaky and toasted on top)
Remove from oven and top with Lemon wedge (feel free to squeeze the juices on top!)

Enjoy!

Oh and one last thing...

This is what Teddy ate! (At least he has good taste!)

Yes, I'm still wearing them!

Thank you, once again Jenn, for giving us this FUn way to share our eats!

Questions FU You...

1. When starting a new program and or eating plan, do you find the first day to be the most difficult?
2. What are you looking forward to eating today?

BAM: Let's Party!

My weeklong staycation has officially ended!

What? Already?!
Sadly. Yes.

In case you missed what I got up to over the past few days, here's a recap:

I won't deny the fact...

This staycation definitely ended with one serious....

BAM!

A 007 BAM that is!

In light of 007's birthday coming up (in just a few days from now)...

Her husband Martin organized a BAMin' surprise parrrrrty for her!

I must say...

He did a fine job at keeping it hush hush as...

She had absolutely no idea this was all being planned behind her back! (I love me surprises lol)

I mean...

I had seen her just hours before at the gym where...

We discussed what she'd be doing to celebrate her big day! (Muahahahaha!)

This #FUFACE didn't give anything away!

On a side note...

If you're wondering what I got up to at the gym...

I had some low-intensity cardio to do on the Elliptical along with a Triceps workout.

It was a good training sesh no doubt :)

Now...

Before heading off to the party...

SuperFit and I made our way to the Byward Market for some trotting around where...

I ended up getting myself my very first pair of Crocs! (I realize I'm a decade late on this one but hey, it's been a week of firsts for me! lol)

And let me tell you...

They are mighty comfortable that's fo show!

After strolling the streets and shops in the blasting humidity...

We ended our outing with a nice wake me up on a patio!

I mean common now...

There's nothing like enjoying a cool hot unsummer like drink on a humid day!

SuperFit's Americano's are far better.
Just sayin'

Once we finished sipping our drinks to the very last drop...

We headed home only to get ourselves all purrtied up!

I clean up nice.

As soon as we got to the  P.A.R.T.Y at Piz'za-za...

It wasn't long before the Birthday Gal arrived!

She was beyond surprised and didn't see it coming...at all!

Greeting friends and family!
Chantal is looking at her Tuna she brought with her.
Pretty exciting stuff ;)

The evening itself was one that was...

Filled with great friends...

FUn...

007 and Little M
007 and PINK

And...

Laugther!

SuperFit and the Girls :)

***

All in all...

This staycation was a good one! (And is now officially over!)

There's no doubt...

I was in need of some relaxation at home and I must say...

It felt really good just going into our days without any real plans!

The puppies enjoyed having us around too :)

So with that in mind...

Hi ho, Hi ho, it's back to work I go!

Happy Monday everyone!

Questions FU You...

1. What did you get up to this weekend?
2. Have you ever had a surprise birthday party?
