That's right!

We do have plans on going this weekend!

If you're interested in attending...

The Art in the Attic show continues until tomorrow (April 29) until 4pm.

Go check it out!

PoW! I Beat It!

Just so you know...

I've been working at overcoming my anti-social running ways!

And if anything, it has only worked to my beneFIT because...

I totally loved my recent group run!

We actually called it the 'Rockin' Birthday Run' as it was my good friend's special day!

More specifically because...

She met her birthday health and fitness goals and was...

Totally rockin' it! (She's feeling and looking absolutely amazing!)

You ROCK SD!!!

I should mention that the route chosen to run was very important to me because...

It would be the course I'd be running during Ottawa Race Weekend! (As with the others in the group!)

I mean...

What better way to get comfortable than actually running what I'm working towards!

It was a gorgeous day!
+7 with moderate to strong winds.
I should become a weathercaster ;)

As this would be my first time running with this group and the route itself...

I was surprisingly more excited than nervous! (Since I tend to stress out when it comes to running in groups!)

My goal: to run the distance in 60 minutes!

Before heading out...

I got dressed...

I went with the pinks!
That's my new Sugoi Jacket :)
My Mizuno's rock!

And...

I FUeled up with a protein shake! (About 2 hours before my run!)

**I slipped in a Bicep workout before making my way downtown!**

Blend:

  1. 10 oz Water;
  2. 1 1/2 Scoops Protein Powder (brand and flavour of choice);
  3. 4 Strawberries;
  4. 2 T of Cocoa Powder;
  5. 1 T Flax Seeds; and
  6. 5 Ice Cubes.

Tadda!
Slllllllllllllllllllllllirp.

Once I met up with the group...

We soon took off and began running with the wind! (Sometimes against it!)

What was interesting (for me) about this run was that I'd be introduced to...

The Walk and Run! (Well, that's what I'm calling it anyway! lol)

What this meant was...

I'd be walking for about 30-60 seconds at every 4KM or so! (I've always run straight through my KM. Having said that, I've heard so many great things about the walk and run! All that to say, I was looking forward to trying it out!)

Running right along....

Throughout our run...

The pace was perfect as was the conversation! (I'm getting a lot better at talking while running! My first experience wasn't so great!)

During the last 1.5KM...

The others sped up while I slightly increased my pace! (I should mention we were a mix of different levels so I'm sure others could have gone a lot faster the whole way through! Actually, I know they could have lol)

In the end...

I finished my 10K run at 59:00:54!

Pow!

I beat my 60 minute goal! (Whether it be by 1 second or 6 seconds, I still managed to beat it! I was super happy!!!)

**I was so thrilled I called SuperFit soon after! He was proud!** :)

2 thumbs up!
SD also set a new PB at 59:00:20!
She's rockin' it alright!!! WoOt WoOT!

Oh and about the walking portion of our run...

I really didn't mind it at all! (I felt it gave me better control of my breathing, because I suffer from exercise induced asthma! At times, not all the time. It depends on the exercise and the day!)

Once we said our goodbyes...

I walked to Starbucks and ordered myself a Venti Iced Passion Tea! (Unsweetened, no lemonade!)

It was unbelievably refreshing!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

All in all...

We had a great time and I look forward to doing it again!

Yep, you heard right!

I'm looking forward to becoming more of a social runner...

One run at a time!

Group Shot!

Questions FU you...

  1. What do you typically FUel up with before and/or after a run?
  2. If you have the opportunity to run the course of your upcoming race, do you run it often?
  3. Do you walk and run? Do you like it?

Feeling Hot, Hot, HOT!

Before taking off for another few days away...

My time at home included some relaxation (to recoup), laundry (so much), giving Teddy a bath...

As well as some time to...

Hang out with Mr. FUntastic before his next departure out in the field!

I must admit...

I was happy when my brother agreed to join me for a Bikram Yoga class at Rama Lotus during his last few days at home!

He brought a face cloth with him.
I told him he needed much more than that during this sweat session!
He didn't keep his shirt on as he quickly realized how HOT it was going to get..
I did prep him, I swear! lol

After 90 amazing minutes...

This was the final result!

He really enjoyed the class and did awesome!
We made sure to drink our 1L of water afterwards.

There is no denying (because I'm always saying it)...

I'm absolutely loving  Bikram Yoga!

I simply can't get enough of it! (I also love the fact Mr. FUntastic was happy and willing to try it out!)

In addition to the Yoga sesh, I spun it out with 007 who...

Got me sweating like mad!

This was the outcome...

Hi.

With all of these sweaty photos, I think it goes without saying...

I've been "feeling Hot, Hot, HOT" more often that not! (Please tell me you know the song reference!)

Hey...

Nothing a Green Protein Shake can't help with!

Note: I forgot to add it in before blending the other ingredients.
WoOps!

Aaaahhh.
Mmmmm.

  2. 1 Scoop Chocolate Protein Powder (I use Revolution Whey Protein);
  3. 1 T Ground Flax Seeds;

Clean & Jerks and Sticking to It!

Right before leaving for my first week (4 days) away from home...

I FIT in a back and shoulders workout! (I was lucky enough to have SuperFit train me one on one!)

Reverse Grip Barbell Rows for my Back.
For one of my exercises.

During the shoulders portion of my training...

I was taught how to do modified high repetition Clean and Jerks! (I laughed at the name of this exercise! SuperFit had to show me on the web that he wasn't lying lol)

What this exercise involved was:

  • The Barbell;
  • Some added weight (depending on your level of strength); and
  • You...

Cleaning...

Bent knees.
Aggressive push on the way up...
(You can bend your knees to push up, if need be)

And, well...

Jerking!

Pushing the bar up and then going back down and...
doing it again.
I did 1 warm up set (x10)
Then 2 'real' sets 15lbs on each side (x8 and x6)

It was definitely an intense workout as a whole and...

I've got the face to prove it!

That's right.

When it came to packing my food essentials...

I made some extras for both SuperFit and me to last us the days I'd be away! (That way he wouldn't have to cook. He really dislikes cooking. As for me, I'd have some homemade noms in another city !)

SuperFit loves Pesto Chicken Pasta

Here are just some of the things I brought with me during my first week on the road...

Oatmeal, Protein Powder, Ground Flax Seeds, Egg Whites and about...
3 servings of Chicken and Veggies.

While away...

I was that I could stick to my scheduled programming! (As planned!)

Egg Oats :)
Egg White Omelette for breakfast :)
Veggies on the inside and Salsa to top.
My own Chicken and Veggie dish I brought with me.
I sprinkled 1 T Ground Flax Seeds on top.
Salmon and Veggies :)

I should also mention that...

I signed up for two evening Bikram Yoga classes! (Now that I've found a huge loving for it, I can't seem to get enough!)

Before Class.

I mean...

What better way to unwind, clear my head, get a good stretch and sweat it out when on the road?! (After busy but productive days!)

Class 1.

I will say though...

The room was hotter than I'd ever experienced before (so hot I was beyond drenched!) and...

Class 2!
FUll class with inches between one another.

The class itself was given at a much faster pace (in terms of instructions) than I was used to!

**I enjoyed this style of teaching (as well) since it made me really think about what I was doing. It also put me in greater touch with my body. It made me use my mind to focus and execute the poses I've been learning over that past month or so! It was a great little challenge for me and I must say, I'm feeling the amazing affects Bikram Yoga has been having on my overall sense of self.**

Overall...

It was and I felt absolutely FUntastic!

Thanks Feel Yoga for the great sessions!

***

Throughout all of this busyness and goodness...

A large part of me did miss home, as well as...

My Espresso...

I pulled my first ever shot of Espresso days ago!
I  made SuperFit a LattĂ©!
(It was supposed to be a Cappuccino but I messed up the milk froth lol)

And of course...

My Teddy Bear!

Did I mentioned he recently turned 4 months?!

Well, not technically ;)

Questions FU you...

  1. Have you ever done modified Clean and Jerks?
  2. What are some of your packed essentials when you leave for a few days?

So I Went To The Bar(re)...

I sure did!

Not the type of bar I'm talking about lol

Let me explain...

I recently came across an awesome deal on one of those deal finder websites, which brought me to...

iNSiDE Out STUDiO barre here in Ottawa!

I'd never heard of barre classes before so I thought of giving it a try as the description appealed to me!

If you don't know what this type of exercise is (much like I didn't)...

Barre classes are a combination of...

YogaPilates and Strength Training, which...

Works out (for the most part, based on what I felt) the quads, glutes and abs. (You are also working your others muscles, I'm just sharing what I felt I was working most while doing it!)

Over a span of 60 minutes...

You are exercising using tiny isometric movements...

While utilizing...

The barre! (For a large portion of the class!)

Source

When it got to the day I got to try it out...

I was pretty excited as I didn't know what to expect! (Other than the fact I'd be doing some Yoga poses and using a barre for something rather!)

**Let me tell you that as a child Ballerina, I was terrible. I could do the movements, but not graceFUlly. I believe this still holds true to this day. The barre brought back some childhood memories! Although, I will say, I did okay at the barre exercises given they were not ballet movements lol**

When I got there...

I bought some sticky socks! (I'd researched what they were before hand as I didn't know what the FU sticky socks were! I thought it was a safe bet getting them from the Studio!)

To prevent slipping and well...
Sticking!

I was also instructed to get some 'equipment' in preparation for the class.

The weights, ball and band were at the back of the room
for the borrowing :)

Once the class started...

The music came on and we got to moving!

Let me just say that throughout the hour...

My heart was pumping, my abs, glutes and quads were burning, and of course...

I was sweating(Through it all)

Overall...

I enjoyed the flow of the class and the stretching incorporated within in! (Some Yoga poses I am now familiar with!)

It was challenging in some areas and believe me when I say...

Not for one second did I stop working!

It was a workout, indeed!

**The instructor was great at adjusting my body into the correct positions required for some exercises at hand! It's something new that I tried, just like everything I've been introduced to in my health and fitness journey. I'm continuing to learn as I go along just like I had to learn how to properly ride a bike! lol**

Now, I have a total of 4 classes left (with the coupon I bought)...

So I'm ready to go back to the Barre and have some FUn!

All to say...

It's definitely worth a try! (If this has peeked your interest!)

And trust me...

You'll feel the burn! (This is a good thing!)

My abs and glutes were super sore the day following!

Questions FU you...

1. Have you ever tried Barre classes? If so, What did you think of it?
2. Is this something you'd want to try out?
