These are all things I've come to do and appreciate in my journey to health and fitness! (And now, that I could never do without!)
Although don't get me wrong....
For the longest time...
The thought of taking a breather and giving my body a break sounded ludicrous as I didn't feel the need for it! (My mind always told me to GO while my body, well, I didn't give that part of me much thought....in the beginning that is!)
To be honest...
Continuously pushing myself and keeping my motor running at all times made me feel like I was on fire! (FIIII-YAAAh!)

| Can you tell? ;) |
And really...
Stopping and giving myself time to rest felt like it would only impede on my progress! (Wrong, so, SO wrong!)
Over the past couple of years...
I've come to learn the benefits of giving my whole being a good #charge in order to...
Give my body and mind the opportunity to reboot and recover! (Both physically and mentally!)
And quite frankly....
Not giving myself this time would in fact be ludicrous in itself! (As difficult as it may be sometimes to pause and refresh, it must be done!)
Typically...
I will take 2, sometimes 3 days off a week but...
After just finishing up an eventFUl few months with my Spartan Beast Race...
My Half-Marathon...
And my competition season...
I gave myself 7 days of rest! (yes, 7 days!!!)
It was the best thing I could have done for me and for my whole entire self!
And truthFUlly...
It gave me a chance to rebalance and refocus myself in many areas of my life! (I'm always on the move so having the opportunity to breathe and relax did me some good!)
And as Lindsay would say...
It gave me a chance to workout my soul muscles!
I think it goes without saying....
After taking this time to rest...
My BODYterries got FUlly #CHARGED!
And as a result...
I felt (and I feel) stronger than ever!

So all that being said...
How about we all make sure to plug in and give ourselves a good #CHARGE from time to time!
Now...
Go #CHARGE yourself!
Questions FU You....
How often do you give yourself a good #CHARGE?
Do you feel restless when taking a rest day?

You said it girl, rest and recharging is so good for you!
ReplyDeleteIt does the body good!
Deletethe older I get the more I FINALLY see the tremendous value of rest and repair.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. I disliked the idea of it before but now I see how important it is. It's okay to rest...repair....breathe and relax.
DeleteI'm a big fan of rest. I love the idea of working out your soul muscles! Great advice.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of working out my soul muscles...LC got it down pat!
Deletei took 7 months off. I was forced, it was needed. My batteries not only healed, they restored FUlly!
ReplyDeleteOh I'm so happy to hear that! xo
Deletei love your words! so wise and so right!!! you're one smart cookie!! rest days can be tough, but it's really, really important! sidenote: your dog is SOOO cute! had no idea he was so big!!! have a great day! spa <3

Isn't it amazing! So good to give ourselves a good charge G! xo
DeleteSo many good points. As I ramp up my training I'm actually taking more rest days than I ever have...and my body is appreciating it. =)
ReplyDeleteMine is too! Glad you're giving your body the rest it needs! :)
DeleteYAY REST!! So necessary! Love it!
ReplyDeleteI usually just do 1 rest day a week and try to vary the intensity of workouts. I have a tendency to go full out all the time. Your body just can't sustain that though so rests are so necessary. I think they can make you feel even more eager to get back to your workouts too.
ReplyDeleteThey absolutely do!
DeleteMy life is full of work. I seldom have a complete day of rest, although I do allow rest from fitness. I just finished a marathon so I had an easy week. Breaks are really very important to allow the #CHARGE... LOVE your Charge list. Have a great week! xoxo
ReplyDeleteYes...breaks are totally important...on all fronts! We all need a little time to reboot :) xo
DeleteI love #CHARGE...a good way to refocus and regroup : )
ReplyDeleteYou got that right! :)
DeletePreach it girl! After yesterday,I'm totally resting (from running) with no guilt!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
DeleteIt is so important to step back and take a breather sometimes...our bodies need it! :)
ReplyDeleteIt definitely does!
DeleteAwesome reminder and advice - and I love the analogy of bodies and batteries. It's so true! Gotta recharge in order to keep on going strong. I need to remind myself constantly to get enough rest in my super active lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! Now, I make sure it's part of my routine!
DeleteYou pics with you pup remind me - We saw a guy at Red Rocks Saturday that was doing squats while holding his Great Dane for weight. It was quite impressive. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm stealing that dog.
ReplyDeleteahh, this resonates with me so much! I have a few injuries and it's hard for me not to want to workout despite all of them! I recently realized my body was screaming at me to slow down when I added my knees onto the injury list! Definitely a couple of rest days/weeks in store for me!
ReplyDeleteAs much as our mind says to go...we need to listen to our bodies when it says it's time to stop and breathe!
DeleteTake good care of your knee!
I love a good rest to recharge. Near the end I get antsy and am more than ready to get back into it. It's great physically and mentally!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean...but taking that rest is so beneficial in the end! :)
DeleteGreat advice! And thanks for the Teddy fix this morning too! Hope he is out of the dog house by now!
ReplyDeleteI knew you'd appreciate the Teddy pics :)
DeleteI must admit I still have a hard time taking rest days :( .... I guess having including health and fitness in my life only about on year ago, I'm actually to afraid to take rest days :( That untill I reach my goal, I don't need it !! Even with pretty severe injuries I have now .. I just can't seem to stay away from the gym... It's the hardest issue I have had to deal with !! But I must thank you to remind me how important giving my body time to rest is !!! All your blogs are so inspirational in which everyone can relate to ...
ReplyDeleteThanks FU :) xx
France
It is so important France...and right now, for you, it's the best thing to do for your body (as much as your mind disagrees with it!). You want to give your body that time to heal up nice so that when you get back into the groove of things, you'll be ready to get after it! 100%
DeleteTake good care of you!
And, as always, thanks for the kind words!
xo
I take 2 days off per week too & now have been forced into multiple days off due to a very bad strain of influenza a flu! Not what I wanted now since I had planned for my rest week in the first week in December when my sis visits... but we shall see... still trying to get thru this horrible flu thing.
ReplyDeleteYou are right Kierston, rest matters! :)
I'm mentally tired right now...need to take a mental and emotional rest day ASAP!
ReplyDeleteDo it!
DeleteI'm not far removed from giving yourself a rest is ludicrous. Just recently after 3 consecutive weekends of racing I took 6 days off from running (by choice). I did a lot of yoga and stretching. My first run after was AMAZING! I'm counting on long-ish rest periods in the future.
ReplyDeleteI never thought I'd give myself a full 7...but I've never felt better...that being my body and mind!
DeleteWow! When you recap it like that, we can see how busy your really were! Crazy, my friend!
ReplyDeleteSo happy that you're taking time to rest and recharge. I typically take one rest day each week, but love the idea of having a whole week for body and brain to come back into balance. Perhaps between Xmas and New Years...
Thanks Tamara!
DeleteThe week did me good and I hope you get to take one too :)
