8 Weeks Out: There Is Balance To Be Found!

After writing Monday's post, I wanted to point out that....

Six of us who were at the birthday party are currently getting ready to compete in October at the Serious About Fitness and Physique Canada shows! (We all special ordered ourselves a salad with no dressing! Some of us even brought our own Protein! lol)

Good times :)

That being said...

Simply because we are focused on our goal and follow a strict program...

Doesn't mean we can't have a great time outside of the gym! (Of course, there is a huge commitment involved in preparing yourself for a show, such as the training and dieting aspects of it, but with that in mind, we also have other commitments outside of the competition that are additionally important to us like family, friends and work to name a few!)

I mean... 

There is life beyond the diet and contest preparations!

No matter the restrictions involved in getting stage ready...

There is always, always room for a good time!

And I can't stress enough how important it is to...

Make the most out of this journey (enjoy it, learn from it and appreciate every moment that comes along with it!) as...

There is absolutely no denying...

The personal growth (both literally and figuratively lol) that comes with this experience! (No matter if the plan is to ever compete again, there is definitely a takeaway! And, there is most definitively something to learn about, well, YOU as a person!)

You can do whatever it is you put your mind to!


What I have found to be most helpful in my preparations is...

My surroundings!

Surrounding myself with family, friends and positivity has been instrumental to my journey! (And in life itself!)

**Having the support and encouragement from those around me, whether or not they are close in physical (or virtual) proximity, has been an amazing way to keep my motivation high, especially on those days where I'm feeling a little low! No words can describe how grateFUl I am!**


A good time isn't a result of what you're eating or drinking...

It's the people, people! (Yes, it's FUn to treat ourselves to yummy food with a drink of choice in hand (I don't drink so it would be a lemonade for me! lol)), but it's just as FUn, if not better, to be surrounded by great company!)

My sister Kiki got me these little Peanut Butter delights and...
I cannot wait to have a try!!!
If you're vegetarian or vegan, they have some amazing flavours to try!
I'm drooling.

And believe me...

There is a balance to be found in competition prep that involves everything that makes your life whole! (You just have to prepare and adjust yourself accordingly knowing some things will change and require more time and attention until the big day! It is manageable!)


I have found a new sense of self and balance during this prep to the stage.

My body and mind are n'sync with one another and I feel good.


Really, really good!

Sure do!

And let me tell you...

That in itself  makes me even more excited about the big day as I continue moving forward!

Let's just say...

This past week has really given me a chance to reflect!

It has also...

Opened my eyes in a sense where I can see more clearly into my inner-self!

In addition to all of this, I, not for one day, forget to...

Be grateFUl for those who surround me! (I am so thankFUl!)

This feeling of peace and balance is definitely one I will remember post-competition!

I now know and am aware of where I want to be right after the big day, which is...

Right here. Right now.

    I am grateful for recovery and being able to run pain free again.

  8. I tend to get the "all or nothing" mindset, especially in school. I always find myself 'competing' with others for the top scores and it just stresses me out! I am grateful in general to be able to get good grades and for my hardworking capabilities. It feels good to give gratitude. :)

  10. Great points! People are always saying they don't know how I can do this (contest rep). the key is to keep having fun and focus on what you CAN have rather than what you cut back on.

  12. Ahhhhh I loved this post so much. It's great to see that you have a nice balance. Having your sherpas around you make life what it is too. Oh and I always bring my own protein ;-)

  15. What a great post. I admire you so much. You look so lovely and your spirit just shines out of you.

    When I was serious about running and training, I would really clean up my diet, particularly getting rid of extra sugar. These days not only don't I complete very often, my diet stays pretty clean year round.

  16. beautifully said!!! I don't drink and so sometimes I can tell people think that means I can't have fun...but I don't need that to have fun. I can be a goofball or serious or crack a joke or watch a movie whatever.

    Truly finding the right people to surround myself with has taken time, but I'm seeing it now reap the benefits!

It is SO important to remember to have fun and take the time to appreciate your loved ones, especially while training. training for any event cant EAT US UP and take over every aspect of our lives, IF we let it!! I did that when I was training for my first half-marathon and regret it BIG time. I was so focused that I never really made friends while living in Maryland. This time around, I'm focusing on balance!
