Recovering and Stuff...

My recovery following...

The Spartan BEAST Race was probably one of my toughest (and longest) recoveries to date in my fitness journey!

My legs took forever to come back to normal (it made for many sleep disturbed nights, slower than normal walks and it made me dread anything involving stairs lol);

It took my toes a little while before they got their wiggle again (I still think I'm going to lose a toe nail); and...
It took my body loads of rest (sleep) to feel completely rested once again (I napped 3 hours the day following the race and I've been sleeping in beyond what is normal for me!).

I didn't snore ;)

That being said...

It was totally worth the blood, sweat, soreness and tears I experienced on that day! (Damn straight!)

Would I do it again?!

There are plans in the making ;)

Before and after....

I feel like I haven't updated you all on much of the things I've been up too as of late (and will be getting ready for soon!)!

Here's a pictorial assembly of my life without having to write a book ;)

~All things food~

I've been enjoying a combination of things involved egg whites of course :)

Scrambled Egg Whites with Salsa and Spinach with a side of Mustard.
Egg Whites, Salsa and Hot Peppers.
Low-Carb Vanilla Protein Pancakes

And how can I forget...

My Oats!

Carb loading pre-race.

I honestly love Breakfast! It's truly my fave meal of the day! (Unless of course I'm having Sushi! Drooooool!)

My lunches are typically green!

There's not a day I go without a salad!

Always with a source of protein of course :)
I've also been adding and enjoying oven roasted Broccoli for some extra greenness!
Spiced with Cumin, Salt and Pepper to taste!

Dinner and such:

Some of these are meals I prepared for SuperFit :)

Chicken and Broccoli Stir-Fry
(I only used Montreal Steak Spice to season)
Chicken Pesto Pasta
Pan Fried Sole with Spinach and Cherry Tomatoes
Pulled Chicken with Spinach, Pesto and Sundried Tomatoes
Here I mashed up my Filet of Sole with Spinach and Cherry Tomatoes.
I splashed on some Hot Sauce for some heat!
No Bread Tuna Melts
Hummus and Olive Tapenade Dip

~"Let's get physical, physical"~

Working Out:

The Friday after the race (6 days later) I ended up taking a FUll rest day! (And by that I mean no exercising!)

Although every day leading up to it...

I trained :)

I rode 35K the day after the Spartan Race to flush out my legs with
SuperFit and Nookie.

I also made sure to...

Pump some serious iron! (Because I love it!)

I split up my muscle groups over the course of 3 days! (Pretty typical in my training)

Monday: Chest/Triceps/Abs
Tuesday: Back and Hamstrings
Wednesday: Shoulders and Biceps

Post-Workout Look.
This is normal.

We are renovating our kitchen!

Let me tell you...

It has been a whole lotta work and a lotta of adjusting to in terms of having a sink, not having a sink, moving the kitchen out into the living room and moving it back into the kitchen (now until everything is ready to go!)!

We also painted over our Orange walls to match
our new kitchen (once it's all been put together!)
I can't wait to see how it turns out!

And in other news...

I went back to my roots! (Well not really! lol)

And by that I mean...

I'm back to being a blonde!

Just in time for the summer season :)

I match my Teddy Bear again!
YaY ;)
I love my little big 46 pounder puppy!
That orange you see in the background will be covered by
a new back splash :)

With all of that being said and done...

I think that about sums it up in terms of my life happenings!

Oh no wait...........

I'm on holidays (beginning very soon) for a good week and a half!

Do we have plans?!

Sure do!

SuperFit and I are going back to Qu├ębec City for a few days for a nice romantic getaway! (We said we would go back during our NYE Trip from this past winter!)

Aaaahhhh, I can't wait!

Question FU You...

What are your plans for the summer season? Anything exciting?!

Stay Tuned FU More On *CaNdY FiT*

  1. I LONG TO GET ME A NEW CANINE FOR THE SUMMER (ok Im shouting. I shall get control of my excitement). A rescue greyhound or boxer.
Beyond that Im looking to perfect my FU face.
It needs lots of work and fu-focus :-)

  2. The blonde looks great!

I am a slow to recover runner myself, so I appreciated reading about yours. You were smart to listen to your body and take it easy getting back at it.

What a great set of food you made! I'm off to do oats for breakfast now!

  3. Yeeeouch on the legs. Glad you got rested up. And I want to redo our kitchen but man the hassle.....Can't wait to see the after pictures.

  4. OUCH!!!!!! But the food & friends/family /pets - great for recovery!!! :-) LOVE YOUR HAIR!!!!

  5. you didn't say how many showers you had to take. I'd have taken 40.

  6. Glad you had a great race and recover well! All that food looks delicious :)

  7. Love the blonde! Looking at all your food has made me very hungry. I'm jealous of your trip to Quebec City. I've always wanted to go!!

  8. Looks like you've been having a good time with your recovery. I don't have anything good planned, just chilling around all summer. Looking forward to a few weekends away in Sept, which is still summer-ish weather.

  9. Ouch! Your poor knees. I think you deserved a 3 hour nap for sure!

Love the blonde and am way jealous of your trip to Quebec City. I want to go and have only heard lovely things about the city. Have fun!

  10. Two things: LOVE the race photos in HDR. LOVE! And I'm with you on the sleeping...all this extra running I've been doing has me dying for naps. :)
