13 Week Countdown: Moving Forward!

As I'm finishing up the first FUll week in my competition prep...

Everything's been going well and I'm on track! (And I feel great!)

After starting up again with my carb cycling (once we got back from our Qu├ębec City trip)...

I had no issues returning to my egg whites and regular eats! (Nothing beats a home cooked meal right?! Right!)

Who said a mug is just for drinks?!
Char Crust Seasoned Chicken with Lettuce, Spinach, Cherry Tomatoes and Broccoli :)
Ground Chicken with Broccoli and Mushrooms.

~Recipe for my Ground Chicken Plate~

Ingredients:

1 lbs of Ground Chicken
1 Broccoli Head
1 pack of sliced Mushrooms
2 1/2 T of Cumin
1 T Dried Oregano
1 tsp Chilli Flakes
Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions:

In a heated, lightly coated olive oil sprayed pan, throw in your veggies.
Add your meat once veggies are about 1/2 way cooked.
Add your spices.
Stir around until meat has slightly browned.
Once cooked, plate and enjoy! (You will have leftovers!)

If you're wondering if the food I consumed while away had any effects on my weight or progress...

It didn't!

Although...

We had planned that in those few days away, I would load up! (With some FUn and yummy wiggle room to play around with!)

The only real 'rule' was...

No sugary treats were to be included in my FUeling!

So no my friends...

I didn't have any sweets! (It's all good though because I enjoyed some really great meals! Plus, with all of the work I had already put into the progress I had made since my goal to lean out, I didn't want to see my efforts go to waste, if you get my drift!)

*CaNdY*  heaven.

I will admit though...

We were both curious to see how my body was going to react given the added carbs as...

My body does have its ways of surprising us in the oddest of ways!

Let's just say...

I (we) was pleasantly surprised that nothing changed! (WoO HoO!)

In terms of my training...

I've been keeping to my workouts at the gym and I've been training hard! (No doubt! I love me some weights!)

I enjoyed a little extra caffeine the other day with ABB's Turbo Tea!

When it comes to my Yoga practice...

I was thrilled to have and introduce Little M (who will be competing again this Fall!) to her very first Bikram Yoga class!

She did absolutely amazing! (And, she's super flexible!)

I didn't realize until the Instructor told us but...
I situated ourselves in what they refer to as
"Hell's Kitchen"
In other words...
We were in the hottest spot in the room!
That would explain why I was so hot the last time! lol

For an update on my half-marathon training...

I've been doing my best to stick to a concrete schedule! (Since I've been lagging a bit behind for the past couple of weeks and let's just say, now is not the time!)

The plan was that...

I get back to a routine this week but...

I've been having pains in my left calf! (I went out on Tuesday and called it quits after hobbling down the road trying to get a normal stride in!)

I should also mention...

My last run wasn't my best either as I suffered from some abdominal cramping!

Teddy Bear giving me a big bear hug before leaving for my run.

I did end up doing 14K (with a little walking) but...

I won't deny, it was definitely a painFUl run. (Both in mind and body!)

**I'm grateFUl for Nookie who brought out my inner-beast when I was ready give in to my mind's weakest point! (I pushed through and finished the run as strong as I could!) Thanks Nooks for your words of encouragement and motivation! xo**

All that being said...

I hope that by giving my calf some time to heal up...

I can get back to it next week! (Cross your fingers and toes for me!)

**Note: I need to make running just as much a priority as my weight training, which is a huge passion of mine! Right now, I need to commit to it to the same degree as my lifting, which is engraved into my schedule!**

***

So now moving forward...

I'm going to continue to 'putt' ahead as I go along in reaching my goals! (You better believe it!)

Mini-Putt

Here's to...

Almost 8 weeks until my half-marathon and 12 weeks to my Fitness competition!

  3. I absolutely love weight training right now. Totally into it. There's a great feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment after a really good workout. I've been a runner for years, so I'm enjoying the new scenery of the weight room :D

  4. Weight training. No doubt. I can't long distance run for my life... I'm a sprinter. :) And DANG your abs are phenomenal! I find it amazing that not only are you doing a competition but a HALF MARATHON!!!! You are one goal-oriented girl and I am your #1 fan. ;) I can't wait to see you cross that finish line and stand on stage!

  5. I am much more into weight training... which is good because I'm training for a competition too and my coach has forbid cardio until I put on weight. Good times.

I'm so impressed you're training for a race AND a comp at once!

  7. Hmm I was always told competition folk couldn't do that much cardio, never mind train for a half - as always Fu, thanks for being here to show me what a 'real' person can do - ANYTHING they want!

    Things I've learned from Fu:
    - TopChips are awesome
    - Charcrust rocks
    - girls can be tough
    - you can do ANYTHING you set your mind to!

    1. Tanya, you always bring a smile to my face! Thank you for your kind words, as always! (They truly mean a lot to me!)

How's your training coming along???? I wanna know!

And in terms of not doing cardio when prepping for a competition...well, I did cardio all the way through to the last few days of my prep last year! (Cardio will remain in my program until the very end or at least close to the date, that's for sure!)

You can do anything you want, you just have to go out and do it. #getterdone :)

  8. You're doing amazing. I'm impressed you are combining half marathon training with your fitness comp training, that's intense! Sorry about the calf... hope it's nothing. Your facial expressions always crack me up!

    1. Thank you so much Laura! It will be intense but I'm excited! :)

I also hope the calf pain is nothing! I'm going for a trial run tomorrow, we'll see how it goes! Crossing my fingers!

  9. So you're half training and getting ready for a comp? Just curious on how you think those will fit together. I love it - but read so many things about fit comp girls that are anti-long-distance or long steady state cardio until right near the cutting. I think if you work at it you can keep muscle and even build with running, but I know many disagree. And It sucks when you have any sort of cramp when running

  10. Ahhhhhh calf pains hurt :(

So excited for you girl! You're looking amazing! You are such an inspiration hunnie! <3

  11. I'm a runner first and foremost. I enjoy weight training, but it's not my priority. Lately I've been doing more yoga than weights (there are only so many training hours in a day, and something has to give).

I think Hell's Kitchen would be a good name for a Bikram studio.

If calf pain is unusual for you (does it recur?), rest should be good, then make sure that you stretch that area consistently. If it does keep coming back, I'd take a look at the shoes that you're wearing. Maybe they're not right for you.

I'd also suggest while your calf is bothering you to wear shoes with an elevated heel--not real high but something that takes a little pressure off the calf.

  16. I'm a runner, and weights have just never been appealing to me but I know I need to push myself further to do them.

  17. Calf pains are the worst! Just give it plenty of rest, it's a sensitive little muscle! :) You are looking amazing, I can't imagine how you'll look at the comp!

  18. I always have calf issues, a lot of times for me it's hydration but other times it's just a matter of over use or lack of stretching. Happy for you that your body didn't freak out, but am also impressed with the lack of sweets.

  19. Crap on the calf!!!! UGH! On the flip - you are amazing!!!!!!! I don't know how you do it but I want to be you! :-) You look amazing too!!!!! As always, LOVE your posts & pics & food! :-)
