FFA Competitor Spotlight: Nikki Boudreau

Today in the Florida Fitness Aylmer Competitor Spotlight we have...

Nikki Boudreau!

Before we get to our Q&A, I'd like to say that through this series...

I've been able to learn so much about my fellow gym mates (and friends) and how...

Each and every one of their journeys to Health, Fitness and to the Competition Stage has...

Inspired me! (They are truly an incredible group of ladies...words cannot describe!)

If you missed the first few, here they are:

Debbie Laurin-Leclerc
Gina Adams
Meaghan Kesterton
Rosanne Neddo

**Note that all Competitors are under the coaching, supervision and guidance of Ken (SuperFit)**

And now, to add to this incredible list, we have...

Nikki, who is 45 years of age and is competing with both Serious About Fitness (SAF) and Physique Canada on June 16, 2012!

She is sweet to the bone muscle, so positive in nature, FUn, energetic, passionate and determined to get'er done! (She's also my Bikram Yoga and Running buddy too) :)

Look at those GUNS!

1. Nikki, tell me a little bit about yourself:

Life is very much like a story book with empty pages! We don’t choose the beginning, but it’s up to us to write the pages that follow it!

2. Were you always involved in health and fitness?

Although I was brought up in a family where exercise was deemed as very important, I always struggled with my weight! It went up and down like a Yoyo!

I must say that the most difficult part of my Yoyo dieting was the mixed feelings of accomplishment and that awful feeling of failure (because I let myself go back to where I started)! It’s really something that plays with your emotions and self-confidence!

I was my heaviest at 188lbs.

3. Why did you decide or what inspired you to compete?

About a year ago, I had the pleasure of watching a group of amazing women ‘strut their stuff’, women who accomplished GOALS far more incredible than their appearance could have ever told you!

That was the day, the moment in time, when I began one hell of an amazing journey and chapter in my life!

So now, here I am, only a few days away from a goal I dreamed about since I was about 16 years of age! This dream I call my Corina Everson moment! She was the one who I admired back THEN, back when I was 16 years old!

Counting down the last 7 weeks of her prep!

4. What keeps you motivated and focused to stay on track with your training and diet?

My mother’s motivation and dedication to stay true to her passions has taught me to stay focused in my own journey to reach my goal(s)!

An avid Marathon Runner!

My mom is my inspiration. She’s had surgery on both her knee and back and still managed to run 10 half marathons as well as a full marathon at the age of 70! She has since had hip surgery but yet still goes out for bikes rides with my father, swims and lifts weights!

In addition, I must say that I am surrounded by truly amazing people!

My husband is my best everything...

Nikki and Husband Rick.

My kids, who I've been raising since they were 6 and 7, are golden...

My friend’s, well, they are the best Gazelles around, and my coach Ken Clement, he truly goes above and beyond! (Thank you!)

Honestly, there are some pretty amazing people in this industry! Strangers just willing to help out and offer tips and advice! Someone pinch me because I’m feeling so lucky!

5. What do you find most difficult about your prep?

Well, those freakin’ high heels!

They are high alright!

Give me a fishing rod, a power tool or a hammer...

BUT 5 inch heels?! Man, that’s a challenge! (My husband would like to thank Jenny for showing me how to 'sexy walk'!)

Nikki looking fabulous in her little black dress!
I'm sure she's wearing high heels but perhaps not her competition heels ;)

6. What do you love most about your prep?

Growing up, I didn’t wear shorts too often. Everyone used to say “man do you have big legs!” Now, for the first time in my life, I can honestly say, I LOVE THEM!

Self confidence issues can start at a young age! The people making the comments don't always realize the impact it can have on the person receiving it! My advice, choose your words wisely! You may not think it's doing any harm but it may very well be!

Check out those Triceps!

7. What have you learned thus far in your journey to stage?

Wow, so much! I’ve learned that peeling off those layers is far more than just physical. That it changes your entire being. That this journey helps you grow from head to toe, inside and out.

If I were asked if I have regrets of not doing this sooner I’d say, hell ya!

Having said that, I’m starting to understand that everything has its time and place in life!

And if you’re wondering if I’m NERVOUS? DAMN straight! Happy?  The song that comes to mind is: I am walking on sunshine oh ya! Excited? From head to toe.

I believe we are truly blessed to have an amazing life!

8. What are some tips/words of wisdom you would share with people who might be interested in competing?

Stop saying I will start Monday! Start today because tomorrow comes far too fast!

Honestly, I started an amazing chapter in my ‘book of life’ just one a year ago, and if there’s one thing I can say to you it’s, don’t wait. I will not let my past determine my ending.

Oh and one more thing…

DON’T FORGET TO STRETCH! (My mom always reminds us of this, that it’s the key!)

9. Favorite motivational quote?

You can avoid or attempt to go around that pile of {poop}of life forever, BUT I am telling you it’s just around the corner!

Sometimes, attacking your goals, life, whatever it may be head on (and getting dirty), can help you feel lighter, happier and healthier! lol

Amazing Nick!

Thank you Nikki for taking part in my blog series!

I've seen you peel off those layers (both inside and out) over the past year! Like an onion (as we so often referred to during our many runs together!).

Congratulations on all of your accomplishments and achievements!

Good luck on June 16!!!

Stay Tuned FU More On *CaNdY FiT*

LOVE this series still - so awesome. Makes me want to go work out RIGHT NOW

  4. damn!!!! and OMG to mentioning Cory Everson...I used to want to be here too! and hysterical to the high heels...I'd rather have a hammer or power tool as well!!! :) Inspiring!

  5. AnonymousJune 13, 2012

Nikki's physique is so impressive and so is the story about her mom running a marathon at age 70! Sounds a lot like the way I feel about my mom and how her fitness inspires me. That's so cute that the heels are tough but fishing and outdoors stuff isn't...opposite for me :-P

  6. yum. LOVE THIS!!! I need to bookmark this for when I need a "get out of bed and workout" kick in the booty ;)
