FFA Competitor Spotlight: Meaghan Kesterton

Continuing right along with the Florida Fitness Aylmer (FFA) Competitor Blog Series...

I would like to introduce you to:

Meaghan Kesterton!

Meaghan is 21 years of age and is prepping towards her very first competition taking place on June 16, 2012 with Serious About Fitness (SAF) and Physique Canada!

 **Note: I was given the liberty to pick and choose any photos I wanted for our Q&A!**

1. Meaghan, tell me a little bit about yourself:

Well, right now I am studying to be a Firefighter. I have a very loving family who has motivated and supported me every step of the way; not only for the competition but throughout my whole life.

My friend Alexandre has been amazing and understanding throughout my training and hardcore dieting. He has also taught me a lot about the fitness world. I honestly don't think I would be where I am today without his support :)

Let's just say, my family and friends pretty well make my world go round!


2. Have you always been involved in Health and Fitness?

No, I haven't always been involved in the fitness world.

Throughout high school, I struggled with my weight. I used to weigh about 175lbs when I was 14 years old and like all teenage girls, I started noticing and caring about my overall looks. I lost over 65lbs in a year but I did it the wrong way. I basically starved myself. After going back to my normal eating habits, I gained 50 pounds of the weight I had lost.

That's the moment I decided enough was enough. 

I started working out, lifting weights and I became serious about fitness. I did the extreme home workout programs like p90x, Insanity, RevAbs and p90x2. Those programs were great and I did obtain amazing results!


But, after a while, I wanted more!


This is when I discovered the world of fitness competitions. This is when I decided to seek out some help. This is when I met Ken and his awesome team at Florida Fitness Aylmer. This is when my journey started and will continue from here on out. =D


3. Why did you decide or what inspired you to compete?

A friend mentioned to me that I should start competing, which is when I started looking it up on the internet and doing my research on fitness competitions. I saw how people transformed their bodies through years of training, how much motivation and dedication it took them to reach that point and, how they must have felt after doing it! I wanted that. I wanted to know the feeling of accomplishing something like this and feeling great about myself from the inside out! =D

I also wanted to compete so that I could face my fears of going on stage in front of hundreds of people in a bikini when just year ago, all I used to wear was hoodies.

I'm doing this for myself, not for anyone else.


4. What keeps you motivated and on track with your training and diet?

The feeling I will get after doing the competition. Knowing I will have put in my ALL and having no regrets once I'm stage!

5. What do find most difficult about your prep?

The diet!!! It's hard to keep up with your training and your diet when you're running on the low carb cycle of  your program.

Meals are always prepared and ready to go!

6. What do you love most about your prep?

The results! Learning more about the fitness world and all the great and inspiring people I get and continue to meet!

7. What have you learned thus far in your journey to the stage?

I learned that anything is possible if you just set your mind to it. How it takes a lot more than just dieting and weightlifting to be able to compete! It's soooooo much more than that, words cannot describe.


8. What are some tips/words of wisdom you would like to share with those who might be interested in competing?

If you really want it then go get it, anything is possible. If I can do it,  you can too!


9. Favorite Quote?

"The mind is the limit. As long as the mind can envision the fact that you can do something, you can do it, as long as you really believe 100 percent" - Arnold.

  7. Really enjoying how this series has diff levels of competitors - veterans to the "game" and newbies too! Meaghan should be proud of her accomplishments and she is so right on with that quote - so much of exercise and fitness goals is MENTAL! I also like how she was honest about the hardest part of training being the low-carb cycle of her diet. I would be the same!

  12. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! So amazing & inspiring! I do so get the diet part. As an ex competitor, that dieting down phase towards the end - YIKES! ;-) I love how you turned your life around!!!

    I started into health/fitness in my early 20's but was fat as a kid so... BUT learning always!

  13. WOW that was really fun to read. What a nice girl it seems. I'm so impressed with her dedication and passion. Good luck with the goal of becoming a firefighter, that's really a wonderful career and I don't hear many women going for it
