FFA Competitor Spotlight: Anouk (Nooksy) Arbour!

As this will be the last of the Florida Fitness Aylmer (FFA) Competitor Spotlights before their BIG DAY...

I want to thank all Athletes and Competitors for taking part in this series!

If you haven't had a chance to meet the many I've highlighted over the past week, here they are:

Debbie Laurin-Leclerc
Gina Adams
Meaghan Kesterton
Chantal Borg
Nikki Boudreau
Rosanne Neddo

I have learned so much from all of these amazing ladies and I must say...

Each and every single one of their journeys is inspirational! (Including those I did not get a chance to highlight!)

Thank you all for sharing your stories and best of luck to all of you!!!

You know I will be there with *CaNdY* Bells on!

So much l.o.v.e. for all of you!

Last in the FFA Competitor Spotlight we have...

Anouk (Nooksy) Arbour!

Nookie (as I like to call her), will be competing on June 16 (tomorrow!) with Serious About Fitness (SAF) and Physique Canada. This isn't her first competition as she competed last year at the 2011 International Drug Free Athletics National Capital Classic in July, where she placed 3rd in the Novice Figure Short Division!

Anouk is a woman with so much love to give; truly beautiFUl inside and out! She has been a great support to me in my running journey and I look forward to crossing the finish line of my very first Half-Marathon with her in the Fall!

I'm grateful to have her in my life, she's a great friend!

1. Anouk, tell me a little bit about yourself:

I'm a mommy to a little boy named Mavi, who is two years of age...

Baby Mavi
xo

A friend and wife to my husband Matthew...

Engaged.
Married.
The beginning of a Family :)

The best daugther in the world to my mom Louise and Dad, Phil, and daughter-in-law to Madeline, who I love so very much!

Madeline and Nooksy!

2. Were you always involved in health and fitness?

Overtime, my lifestyle has been through many changes, especially during my adolescent years. In other words, my love for healthy foods and sports went out the window for a period of time.

By the age of 17, I started working at a gym in the World Exchange Plaza (in Ottawa), where health became more of a priority. A few years later, I came to meet a wonderful woman named Nikki at Florida Fitness Aylmer, the gym I now trained and worked at. She was full of energy and ready to dedicate herself to running. Since then, she and I have never stopped running together, which dates back 10 years now! We actually ended up doing our first half and full marathons together! It was an amazing experience!

Soon after we had accomplished our goals, I decided to add biking to my  list of sports I wanted to get involved in. I did this with my very best friend, Kenny Bear (SuperFit), who I worked with for 13 years in the gym industry.

Never a dull moment with them!

We both got addicted to cycling at the same time and, there's no doubt how many memories we shared and continue to share together within this sport and life itself!

In France on a cycling trip!

To make a long story short, I would cycle and run my little heart out all season, which eventually led me to participate in Duathlons. The two things I loved the most packed into one event, it was GENIOUS!

All in all, when it comes to my healthy living lifestyle, this I know stems from my mother who decided, in the early 80s, to become a vegetarian. In addition to this, as a kid, my mom used to make me walk for my treats. Let' s just say, I learned at a young age to walk whatever distance it took for the chance to eat some ice cream as we never had any sugars in the house.

Well...
Once she could walk that is ;)

Fast forward to the present, I will now run whatever it takes to have my ice cream!

Mmm. Mmm. Good.

Personally though, I like to eat clean all year round with little treats wedged in between my days!

SuperFit (Ken) and Nookie.
Just another day ;)

3. Why did you decide or what inspired you to compete?

I've always admired toned and muscular women. Whether I saw them training at the gym or in fitness magazines, that FIT look was something I aspired to achieve.

Competing in itself, for me, has always been a dream of mine but I loved eating ice cream far too much to ever commit to the idea.

A couple of years ago, I finally decided to do it. Do something I could be proud of and say "I did it!".

When I came 4 weeks away from competing in my first competition, I got pregnant with my beautiful son, Mavi! Needless to say, there was no show for me! lol

One beautiful family!
Mama and her boy!

After giving birth to my baby boy, I was determined to get the baby weight off. This brought me back into prepping mode, where I finally worked my way to my very first Fitness Competition with my new incredible friend, FU!

Getting much love from her Husband Matt!

4. What keeps you motivated and focused to stay on track with your training and diet?

Training is a must for me as it wakes me up in the morning (much like coffee does for others!). Whether I'm competing or not, I love the feeling of feeling alive with all of the exercising I do.

As far as the diet goes, I know what I'm doing is the only way to get there! If you want to look your best for THE SPORT, you have to follow a specific diet tailored for that specific look!

Knowing I've committed myself to this goal, that keeps me motivated and focused.

If those glasses don't keep you focused....
;)

5. What do you find most difficult about your prep?

The hardest thing for me is the diet because I enjoy having a little more of those foods and treats I love to eat that go along with the exercising I love doing day to day!

She likes ice cream as much as I like *CaNdY* ;)
She's also a Peanut Butter Monster lol

When you are preparing for a competition, you are just fuelling  yourself up for a look that is desired for the sport itself.

Packing up her suitcase before heading off to her first competition!
Just about ready to hit the stage!

6. What do you love most about your prep?

I love the fact I'll be competing with my marathon partner Nikki, at the SAF & Physique Canada show.

Nikki and Noosky running their first Marathon!

7. What have your learned thus far in your journey to the stage?

Live it once if it's something you truly want to do! Have fun with it and stay true to yourself. Also, surround yourself with positive people!

Noosky and 007!

8. What are some tips/words of wisdom you would share with people who might be interested in competing?

Don't take yourself too seriously! This is only a little part of you who are. It does not define you as a person. It's simply a great journey among many more that you'll encounter.

She's always taking things so seriously.

9. Favorite motivational quote?

Learn how to be happy with what you have while you pursue everything it is that you want :) :) : ) :)

  7. My new best friend.... I AM ALL ABOUT ICE CREAM. It's the one thing I could never give up and I don't even mess around with trying to keep it healthy. Nope, give me mint choloate chip, java chip... make it happen. Closes you might get is a pineapple sherbert. Does that count?
