Campground to Training Ground...

We recently spent an evening at a campground to celebrate (a late)...

Father's Day!

We drove about 45 minutes out from where we live to find ourselves at...

Did someone say camping?!

My step-mom, brother and sister, who absolutely love camping, were already there (and were staying there) for about...

A week's time!

For those who don't know me too well...

I'm not really big into camping! (We never camped out as kids, unless we were in the backyard!)

And fishing ,well...
I'm still getting used to that ;)

Don't get me wrong though...

I have gone out in the bush before (with the condition I could bring Marshmallows) and yes...

I did have a great time!

Does the cottage count as camping?
Rhetorical question lol

But...

I wouldn't ever think to make camping a vacation! (The Masta shares the same opinion as me lol)

That being said...

I'm not going to say it will never happen because I'm sure it will...some day! (SuperFit does enjoy camping so I'm pretty confident he could bribe convince me into it with Marshmallows or something lol)

And I'm sure my dad could also be convinced...

Given the right incentive!

Doesn't take much to get a FU going ;)
I bet you he has not one but two marshmallows in his mouth! lol

Either way...

This particular evening at the campground was bound to be relaxing and FUn!

From Campground to Training Ground...

Upon arrival...

SuperFit and I went for walk to check out the place!

We soon came to a playground where...

SuperFit immediately got into training mode!

Yep.
Training mode.

Within a matter of minutes...

He found all sorts of workouts to do using the simple structures available to us the kids!

Weeeeeeeeeee!

In no time...

Did he turn our play time into training time!

He thought this would be a good opportunity for me to practice some 'basic skills' for my upcoming Spartan race! (Which I haven't backed out of! lol)

If you hear something that sounds like a Dolphin....
That would be me, laughing.

Here's a look into some of the things he had me do:

Monkey Bars:

I started small by...
Using the Child Monkey Bars.
It's tougher than it looks lol

Chin Ups:

I did 4!
I surprised SuperFit by doing more than just one lol
I'll be sure to add Chin Ups to my Fitness Bucket List.
10 by the end of 2012.

And...

Modified Upside Down Plank Rows using the rails (working my Back, Biceps and Abs):

10x

In addition to this...

He also had me practice my climbing skills by going up The Wall of Doom Rope!

I had no issue going up.
Coming down was another story.
A kid was looking at me at the bottom. Laughing.

As well as climbing...

The Spider Structure!

Help!

In all of this FUn and training...

I discovered I may be a tad afraid of heights!

I also quickly came to realize...

1. How easily you can turn your surroundings into a workout environment;
2. How much I love playing training in the park; and
3. How my brother and sister would have no problem kicking my butt in all of these challenges!

Don't ever underestimate the power of youth!

Little Jeff rocking it.

Me, trying to rock it...

**I also couldn't help but think of Miz's daugther, The Tornado, who rocks the Monkey Bars...unlike me! lol!**

He ain't afraid of no heights!
JoJo...
A master of the spider structure.

Let's just say...

Good thing I got some practice time before my upcoming race! lol

***

Back to the party...

Without going into great detail...

We had a great evening filled with food, love and laughs :)

Nom Nom.
Relaxing.
Can you believe we FIT 13 at a table?!
I brought my own meal!
Chicken, Lettuce, Cherry Tomatoes, Salsa and Mustard.
We got him a new camera!
Mmmm...
Camp Fire.

All in all...

I think I may be going back to the campground sooner than I'd imagine! lol

Questions FU You...

1. Do you enjoy camping?
2. Have you ever used a playground to train?
3. How are your Monkey Bar skills?

Stay Tuned FU More On *CaNdY FiT*

  3. I love this! Playgrounds are surprisingly difficult, aren't they? I'm amazed at how quick and fit little kids are. Great picture of your dad, too! :)

  5. I haven't been camping in probably 18 years or more. We used to camp for a few days at the lake with my dad when we were kids. My hubby, now he grew up really camping. He'd love to go I'm sure. Me? I need running water LOL

  6. LOVE it!!!!
I rock the playground sometimes when the mean moms don't tell me to let the kids play and for me to leave!
I do NOT like camping...nor does my daughter...too many bugs for her liking!

  7. When I was a kid, camping was defined (by my mother) as something that was done in a motor home, at a campground with full service bathrooms. That attitude has stayed with me.

Playground training is great and so much fun. Makes me remember when I was in school, all the girls were proud of their callouses from swinging across the monkey bars (and the rings! loved them).

  8. Love this! We are about to go houseboating and I've been told it's a lot like camping. A little of the outdoorsy-ness is making me nervous. I'm not such the typical type.

Your camping adventure looks awesome and FUN!! Love playing like a kid.

  10. What a fun trip, I love that you turned the playground into a training activity - looks like so much fun!! I haven't been camping in ages, but it's something I'd like to do sometime this year.

  11. LOVE IT!!!! My first thought - Carla & Tornado! :-) I did so many of these things as a kid!!!! Great workout! :-) What fun BUT... Me - NO CAMPING! I want my hotel room, shower & toilet & stuff. Too many bad experiences as a kid! ;-)

  15. I spend a lot of time at the playground these days. I started hanging on the monkey bars lately trying to beef up my skills. It's tough! I don't know how I did it as a kid.

  16. I love your videos and pictures and your Dad's FU face!! It amazes me how easy kids make the monkey bars look. I cannot for the life of me do them anymore. It is great how creative you can be about fitness if you just open your eyes.

  17. I just spent time on a playground the other weekend and couldn't believe how much fun it was. For me it was a trip down memory lane and I was amazed at what good shape I must have been in to do some of the stuff I used to do on that equipment! Then again I was also moving 40-70 pounds as opposed to what I am now. lol. I'm such a city girl, I give you props for camping
