So I Went To The Bar(re)...

I sure did!

Not the type of bar I'm talking about lol

Let me explain...

I recently came across an awesome deal on one of those deal finder websites, which brought me to...

iNSiDE Out STUDiO barre here in Ottawa!

I'd never heard of barre classes before so I thought of giving it a try as the description appealed to me!

If you don't know what this type of exercise is (much like I didn't)...

Barre classes are a combination of...

YogaPilates and Strength Training, which...

Works out (for the most part, based on what I felt) the quads, glutes and abs. (You are also working your others muscles, I'm just sharing what I felt I was working most while doing it!)

Over a span of 60 minutes...

You are exercising using tiny isometric movements...

While utilizing...

The barre! (For a large portion of the class!)

Source

When it got to the day I got to try it out...

I was pretty excited as I didn't know what to expect! (Other than the fact I'd be doing some Yoga poses and using a barre for something rather!)

**Let me tell you that as a child Ballerina, I was terrible. I could do the movements, but not graceFUlly. I believe this still holds true to this day. The barre brought back some childhood memories! Although, I will say, I did okay at the barre exercises given they were not ballet movements lol**

When I got there...

I bought some sticky socks! (I'd researched what they were before hand as I didn't know what the FU sticky socks were! I thought it was a safe bet getting them from the Studio!)

To prevent slipping and well...
Sticking!

I was also instructed to get some 'equipment' in preparation for the class.

The weights, ball and band were at the back of the room
for the borrowing :)

Once the class started...

The music came on and we got to moving!

Let me just say that throughout the hour...

My heart was pumping, my abs, glutes and quads were burning, and of course...

I was sweating(Through it all)

Overall...

I enjoyed the flow of the class and the stretching incorporated within in! (Some Yoga poses I am now familiar with!)

It was challenging in some areas and believe me when I say...

Not for one second did I stop working!

It was a workout, indeed!

**The instructor was great at adjusting my body into the correct positions required for some exercises at hand! It's something new that I tried, just like everything I've been introduced to in my health and fitness journey. I'm continuing to learn as I go along just like I had to learn how to properly ride a bike! lol**

Now, I have a total of 4 classes left (with the coupon I bought)...

So I'm ready to go back to the Barre and have some FUn!

All to say...

It's definitely worth a try! (If this has peeked your interest!)

And trust me...

You'll feel the burn! (This is a good thing!)

My abs and glutes were super sore the day following!

Questions FU you...

1. Have you ever tried Barre classes? If so, What did you think of it?
2. Is this something you'd want to try out?

  1. I've never tried...and I am soooo not coordinated, I think I lasted in kid ballet for a few lessons and decided (accepted) I was hopeless in that area! lol

  4. I have 2 friends (Jessica Sutera is an FFA too) that teach a barre class near Boston. They are beyond sold on the workouts. It reminds me of my former ballet days. Glad to hear you enjoyed it.

  6. Looks like a great class, Kierston. A great teacher makes all the difference in the world. You reminded me that I need to use up my Crossfit coupons. But hey, you also inspired me to take up Hot Yoga tomorrow morning. :) Can't wait. It should be fun.

  7. I would love to try a class like this. We had some money classes at my university gym where I did my graduate work, but I was always in class or working when the offered them. WHY ONLY AT LUNCH TIME? Ugg. I like to try new things and challenge my body.
