On The Run...

Since my return to running…

Things have been going pretty well!

This is me.
Happy.

Although I will admit…

I was a tad worried about 3 weeks in as…

I started feeling some major discomfort (again) in the same exact area as before.

That pain left me feeling a touch discouraged because I feared I would have to stop (for a second time)! (Especially after I took over 3 months off of running!)

This is me.
ConFUsed and slightly discouraged.

I thought to myself…

You have got to be FU’in kidding me!

This is me.
Not so impressed.

I also worried that maybe…

I wouldn’t be able to accomplish my goal of running a half-marathon this year because I may require some additional healing time!

And believe me when I say…

I started doing loads of research in trying to figure out what the FU was going on, WHY it came back and IF I could fix it somehow! (I know it was diagnosed as a hamstring injury, but I also found something similar to what I was feeling. That being the symptoms of a Baker’s Cyst…but even that was questionable! Who knows?!)

In my lack of faith in the actual healing of my injury…

I spoke to my neighbor who swore by her McDavid Jumpers Knee Strap she had recently purchased at The Running Room!

It was worth a shot.

As soon as our conversation ended…

I immediately found myself at The Running Room with SuperFit. (Well, the next day!)

I knew what I wanted so I left with...

Knee Pro-Tec Patellar Tendon Strap!

Not my knee!
A different brand but same idea.

SuperFit ended up getting something too, that is...

A strap made for his IT Band! (My neighbor's husband, who’s a Marathon Runner, also swore by his!)

Not SuperFit's knee.
IT Band Compression Wrap.
I really need a manicure.

The following evening...

I strapped on my band just below my knee and…

I should have shaved.

I still felt some slight discomfort! (Boo!)

And oddly enough…

The pain seemed to have shifted spots! (Ugh!)

Despite the continuous throbbing and whatever else I was feeling…

I didn’t give up on it since it deserved more than one trial shot! (I couldn't expect miracles with my first try!)

Moving 'Running' right along...

Since purchasing and wearing my knee band (for about a month now)

I've running in between 8-12km a week on the treadmill (give or take...depending on my schedule) as well as spinning 4-5 hours a week, and I have to say…

I've not been feeling any pain whatsoever! (And no post-discomfort either!)

You can just imagine my excitement once I started noticing the huge improvement!!!

The day I registered 4 my first 10k!
It's this coming May :)

That being said…

The Knee Pro-Tec Patellar Tendon Strap is something I have totally fallen in love with! (Based on my trial!)

I mean…

Whatever pain I was feeling has completely disappeared! (Knock on wood!)

So…

If you're suffering from any discomfort in your knee (or in behind of it like me!)

I would suggest you give it a try to see if it works for you! (Because I know it’s been working like magic for me!)

I’m just happy I gave it another shot, and that...

My half-marathon goal is back into play! (Crossing my fingers, toes, legs and arms!)

**I will soon attempt running without it to see how my knee/hamstring area reacts without the strap...I'll keep you posted!**

In other running news…

I recently posed a question on my facebook page and I also asked my fellow Fitluential Running Peeps about...

Good and reliable running earbuds/phones!

I asked more specifically because...

I’ve been having the biggest issues in keeping the buds in my ears as either:

1. The sweat (ew, I know); or
2. The shape of them..

Do not allow them to stay in for very long!

Thanks to the feedback I received...

The Top 3 suggestions I got were:
**Comments are original**
  1.       Skullcandy: (obviously I loved the name lol):
“I love my Skullcandy earbuds. They come with three different sizes of rubber things that go inside your ear and they stay put. :)”
    2.   Yurbuds:
“Huge fan of yurbuds!!http://www.yurbuds.com/ They are the first ones that I haven't shorted out due to sweat (I sweat a lot!) =)”
Ear buds don't cut it for me. They fall out. I run in pouring rain, snow storms and I run hard and far, so I sweat. I tried many types and finally settled on a pair of water-resistant *Sennheiser Adidas PMX 680i*. You can actually wash them under running water. I've used them every day since last July. You can actually separate the cord in two and have just enough for an iPod on an armband. Also, the cord will never get all mingled. Love them!!!”

After trying out both the Skullcandy and Adidas OMX 680 Sports (because it was wireless)…

Bonus!
It came with a free T-shirt!

I had no luck with either! (So I returned both + the T-Shirt! Boo, I know!)

I then tried out the Adidas PMX680 Sports (as suggested)...

And…

I found success!!! (I don’t mind the wire either!)

Trust me...

No sweat or anything is going to get these babies out! (Well, unless of course I take them out  of my ears myself lol)

Oh and...

I also ended buying an Adidas miCoach Armband in order to stop my iPhone from popping out of my pockets with every stride! (Ya I know...I'm lacking on the running gadgets and apparel! I'm slowly loading up!)

Let me just say…

It was an amazing buy! (Since I almost flipped off the treadmill a couple few times due to my iPhone flying all over the place!)

My saviour.

Plus...

I never run without my tunes! (So this was a necessary purchase not only for me to get in my zone but mostly for my safety!)

In terms of my running shoes...

My Mizuno Wave Inspire 7’s have been treating me really well!

Oooh.
Aaaah.

I feel so secure in these shoes!

It’s almost like my feet are in a…

Comfortable lockdown!

As opposed to my hands!

1. Favorite earbuds/phones?
2. Running shoes? What’s your brand/style of choice?
3. Have you ever sustained a running injury that wouldn’t seem to go away, even with plenty of recovery time?

  5. Glad you're running is back on track pain free! I don't run with earbuds because I typically push a stroller and need to hear the Weasel if she needs something. Good luck in your upcoming 10k!

Thanks for the info, I have had two knee surgeries (re-alignment of the patella) and was wearing J-braces when training, but they were bulky and uncomfortable, so I just deal with the pain, but this new discovery may help. I have just started running (well a jog at best), and am now up to 5-6km in about 45 minutes, and I also jog in silence.... Good luck with your goals, I know you will make it!
